The Gilgers

Chris Drexel and Greg Taylor interviewed the Gilgers about non-traditional family roles. Watch their Soundslide here.

Kristin Gilger is an associate dean of the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, soon to be based at the new downtown campus. Before taking her current job this year, Gilger taught various reporting classes and had been the director of student media since spring 2002.

Students have grown to know her well, but few know about her nontraditional family life. Gilger, mother of three now-grown children, has been the familyís sole breadwinner since she and her husband, Gary, gave birth to their second child more than two decades ago. The Gilgers relocated many times as Kristinís career required, including to what could be their final stop ó the Valley of the Sun — as Kristin takes a lead role in the Cronkite schoolís new direction.
